PGN Launches Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) Plasticpay on Its 59th Anniversary to Support the NZE 2060 Decarbonization Program

Jakarta, May 13, 2024 – On the occasion of its 59th anniversary, PT PGN Tbk, as Subholding Gas Pertamina, partnered with Plasticpay to launch an innovative Reverse Vending Machine (RVM) aimed at making it easier for consumers to participate in reducing plastic bottle waste of any brand. Through this RVM, the return of used bottled water containers can be done practically and beneficially.

The PGN x Plasticpay RVM applies Artificial Intelligence (AI) technology to process returned bottles in various forms. The collection of plastic bottle waste through this RVM is also part of PGN’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) program, supporting SDGs No. 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities), SDGs No. 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), SDGs No. 14 (Life Below Water), and SDGs No. 17 (Partnership for the Goals), all of which are being implemented in 2024.

Rachmat Hutama, Corporate Secretary of PGN, stated, “PGN would like to thank Plasticpay for the strategic collaboration in prioritizing environmental care. This partnership enhances our efforts to manage plastic waste better and actively contributes to the decarbonization program towards Net Zero Emission 2060.”

He explained that the company’s business is aligned with sustainability strategies and focuses on ESG aspects, especially environmental concerns. This step can be realized through small actions. In conjunction with Earth Day this year, PGN is promoting awareness to reduce plastic waste. While it is impossible to avoid plastic use in daily life, it can be managed more wisely.

“As a company in the energy sector, PGN has a significant responsibility to protect the environment. In its actual efforts, PGN aims to implement environmental care across all its operations by utilizing the advancements in current technology. We appreciate that Plasticpay can provide modern technology for plastic bottle recycling,” said Rachmat.

To return bottles using the PGN x Plasticpay RVM, consumers first need to download and register on the Plasticpay app from Google Play or the App Store. Then, bottles can be inserted into the RVM, which will automatically calculate the deposit of the bottles. After completing the transaction, consumers scan the QR code using the Plasticpay app. They will receive Plasticpay points that can be redeemed for e-wallets, bank accounts, vouchers, and more.

Imam Pesuwaryantoro, ESG, PR, and Corporate Communications at PT Plasticpay Teknologi Daurulang, expressed high appreciation for the strategic collaboration between PGN and Plasticpay to accelerate the decarbonization of Indonesia towards Net Zero Emission 2060. He believes this collaboration will bring significant social, economic, and environmental impacts that are inclusive.

“All used bottled water containers collected regularly will be managed for recycling by Plasticpay in partnership with MSMEs. The recycled materials will be sold and become part of the economic cycle between business actors, product users, and plastic waste, which can then be turned into business capital,” concluded Imam.
