Pertagas Commits to Ensuring the Reliability of the Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) Gas Pipeline Operation Phase I

Semarang – Pertamina Gas, part of Pertamina's Subholding Gas (SHG), welcomed a visit from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) on Friday, May 31st, at its Onshore Receiving Facility (ORF) in Tambak Lorok, Semarang, Central Java. The visit was part of a management walkthrough (MWT) activity.

The MWT event was attended by Noor Arifin Mohammad, the Director of Technical and Environmental Affairs at the Directorate General of Oil and Gas (Ditjen Migas) at ESDM, alongside a delegation from PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), as well as the leadership of PT Pertamina Gas (Pertagas).

“PT Pertamina Gas, as the operator of the Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) Phase I gas pipeline, continues to follow operational standards to ensure the reliability of gas supply to end users,” said Pertagas President Director Gamal Imam Santoso during the MWT.

As the operator, Pertagas has adhered to all safety and security guidelines, ensuring compliance with regulations. Gamal emphasized the importance of following the established procedures to maintain operational excellence and prioritizing Health, Safety, Security, and Environment (HSSE) aspects.

The MWT was conducted to evaluate and improve the utilization of gas supply through the Cisem pipeline to consumers. The activity was aimed at ensuring the technical reliability of the operational equipment for gas distribution, underscoring Pertagas' commitment to operational excellence and HSSE standards.

Gamal hopes that the management walkthrough will help optimize gas distribution to communities and industries. "We are open to feedback that will enhance our operations, ensuring that all technical aspects are executed well and in line with our expectations going forward," he said.

Noor Arifin Muhammad, Director of Technical and Environmental Affairs at Ditjen Migas, emphasized that safety must be the top priority for all players in the oil and gas industry. "All safety aspects must be implemented, starting from research to operations, and must be continuously monitored," he stated.

He expressed his pride in the Cirebon-Semarang (Cisem) I ORF facility for adhering to high safety standards. "We are grateful and proud to see that the ORF is operating smoothly," Noor added.

The Cisem Phase I pipeline, which spans 62 km from Semarang to Batang, is a transmission gas pipeline that serves the needs of the Kendal Industrial Area (KIK), Batang Integrated Industrial Area (KITB), and other industrial areas along the Cisem pipeline route.

The gas distributed through the Cisem pipeline is sourced from the Jambaran Tiung Biru field (Blora Working Area), the Long Term Plan (LTP) Cepu Working Area (Cendana - Alas Tua fields), and the Tuban Working Area (Sumber-2 field).

Integration and Future Outlook

Harry Budi Sidharta, Director of Infrastructure and Technology at Pertamina Gas Negara (PGN), expressed that Pertagas is well-equipped to operate the ORF safely and effectively.

"Moving forward, gas will play a critical role in the energy transition, and its consumption will continue to rise in Indonesia. Gas will be central to the transition to cleaner energy, supported by PGN’s strategy to integrate all transmission operations," Harry said.

He added that Pertagas is expected to continue developing as a reliable infrastructure operator, ensuring the steady distribution of natural gas across Indonesia.

"Pertagas has demonstrated its ability to operate the ORF. We hope that the trust placed in us continues so that we can successfully integrate transmission operations," Harry concluded.

Pertagas’ ongoing development in ensuring reliable energy delivery aligns with its vision of "Delivering Reliable Energy" and its commitment to providing sustainable benefits by enhancing the energy supply chain.

Pertagas has transformed into an energy infrastructure company that is committed to safe, environmentally friendly operations and strives to provide reliable energy to all sectors of life.
