PGN Subholding Gas Pertamina Optimistic About Strengthening Natural Gas Business and Energy Resilience
Jakarta – PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk ("PGN"), as the Subholding Gas of Pertamina, is optimistic about the growth of its business moving forward, aiming to expand domestic natural gas utilization across various regions. Additionally, PGN is focused on increasing the domestic use of natural gas to strengthen national energy resilience.
PGN's future investment strategy is aimed at reinforcing its business presence. The company plans to continue expanding its customer base, currently serving 830,935 customers, including 825,856 households, 3,103 industrial and commercial clients, and 1,976 small customers.
"We are focused on accelerating connectivity and the availability of infrastructure to enhance the utilization of gas in both existing and newly developed markets. Simultaneously, development initiatives are reinforced through the optimization of LNG terminals, gas infrastructure, product and service diversification, including LNG trading, renewable energy development such as biomethane, and oil pipelines to increase revenue," said PGN's Corporate Secretary, Rachmat Hutama, on March 15, 2024.
PGN will continue to build and manage natural gas infrastructure, including initiating innovations in gas infrastructure to facilitate easier access to gas distribution. The company is also open to synergies with the government and other businesses to integrate natural gas management for the public.
"PGN uses three priority pillars to move forward and face change, namely Grow, Adapt, and Step Out, which we call GAS. We pay attention to industry dynamics and the uncertainties in the oil and gas business world, so these three pillars serve as guidelines for PGN to focus on optimization, development, and simultaneously pushing for the development of green energy businesses, which are sustainable and environmentally friendly," Rachmat added.
For PGN's long-term vision in leading its business development, Arief Setiawan Handoko, President Director of PT PGN Tbk, was awarded as The Best CEO Visionary Leadership in the BUMN & Subsidiaries category at the 2024 BUMN Awards, held by BUMN Track on March 13, 2024.
PGN is also working to maintain the balance between supply and demand to meet the needs of all customers. This is achieved through comprehensive assessments of the gas supply portfolio via transmission and distribution pipeline networks and through LNG modes.
"It should be a reminder for all of us that LNG can be a solution for gas balance, not a replacement for pipeline gas. LNG can complement natural gas supplies as the demand for natural gas continues to increase," Rachmat noted.
Furthermore, PGN is solidifying its efforts to enhance the recognition and utilization of LNG, including in LNG Trading, LNG Hub & Storage, and LNG Bunkering for the Marine Fuel sector. This corporate action is crucial because LNG will be a future supply solution for Indonesia.
PGN will also be involved in several strategic projects, including the WNTS-Pemping gas pipeline project, gas infrastructure at the Tuban refinery, and the development of pipeline infrastructure to support fertilizer plants in Eastern Indonesia. The downstream gas product projects are being prepared in sectors such as petrochemical, biomethane, hydrogen programs, and CO2 transportation.
"PGN is optimistic that the company’s performance will continue to improve. With the belief that natural gas will continue to play a vital role in the energy transition phase, we will maintain our gas business while further developing our business portfolio," Rachmat concluded.
