Supporting the Eternal Flame to Keep Burning, PGN Successfully Delivers Natural Gas to the Kusuma Bangsa Park Monument in IKN

Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN), August 15, 2024 – In commemoration of the 79th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia on August 17, 2024, PT Perusahaan Gas Negara Tbk (PGN), as Pertamina’s Gas Subholding, has successfully completed the installation and supply of natural gas to the Kusuma Bangsa Park Monument, also known as the Eternal Flame, located in the Beranda Nusantara area of Ibu Kota Nusantara (IKN).

"This natural gas is delivered using two C-Cyl cylinders with a capacity of 24 m³, ensuring the Eternal Flame will burn continuously 24 hours a day. The use of natural gas at the Kusuma Bangsa Park Monument reflects PGN's commitment to providing clean and environmentally friendly energy, supporting the grand vision of Golden Indonesia 2045," said Ratih Esti Prihatini, PGN's Commercial Director.

In line with the spirit of "New Nusantara, Advanced Indonesia," Pertamina Group has embraced the theme "New Energy for an Advanced Indonesia." PGN reinforces its role in supporting the readiness of natural gas infrastructure as a source of clean energy in IKN, particularly for the upcoming Independence Day celebration. Kusuma Bangsa Park, recently inaugurated, has become a centerpiece in Beranda Nusantara, featuring key elements such as the Nusantara protective wings, flagpole, statues of Soekarno and Hatta, and the Eternal Flame Monument.

The Kusuma Bangsa Park is dedicated to honoring Indonesia's heroes who fought for the nation's independence. On August 17 at midnight, a solemn reflection ceremony will be held in the park to pay deep respect and tribute to the heroes who sacrificed for Indonesia's freedom.

To ensure a stable and reliable energy supply in IKN, PGN has integrated pipeline and beyond-pipeline infrastructure in the Central Government Core Area (KIPP) Sub-WP 1A. To accelerate the use of natural gas, PGN has optimized beyond-pipeline methods by employing Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) transported via cylinders, known as Gaslink Cylinders.

“These Gaslink Cylinders have been installed at various strategic locations in IKN, including the Ministerial Residences (RTJM), State Palace, Garuda Palace, the Presidential Secretariat Office, and other government facilities. As of now, the shelter installation progress stands at 77%, with 10 out of 13 completed. A total of 34 Gaslink Cylinder units are projected to deliver up to 4,583 m³ of natural gas per month by August 2024,” Ratih explained.

The natural gas supply is sourced from Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, via intermodal gas transportation. This effort is expected to support the government's plan to develop a green industrial area in IKN, where natural gas, with lower emissions compared to other fossil fuels, can become a primary choice for clean energy.

PGN continues to collaborate with the IKN Authority and various stakeholders to ensure that natural gas supply in IKN not only supports the Independence Day celebrations but also provides long-term benefits for society and the environment.

“This initiative not only supports the 79th Independence Day celebration but also aligns with Indonesia’s grand vision of achieving Net Zero Emission by 2060. With reliable natural gas infrastructure, PGN is ready to be a cornerstone in advancing Indonesia through the provision of clean, environmentally friendly, and sustainable energy in IKN,” Ratih concluded.
