Natural Gas Distribution in the Commercial Sector in Semarang Booms After the Integration of Central Java's Gas Infrastructure

Semarang, 21/07/2024 -- PT PGN Tbk has received a boost to expand its market into the commercial sector in Central Java following the integration of the Gresem transmission infrastructure, Cisem I pipeline, and distribution pipelines. The integration also plays a crucial role in optimizing supply, particularly from the Jambaran Tiung Biru (JTB) field.

Sugianto Eko Cahyono, Area Head of Semarang, explained that the commercial market in the Semarang area is largely centered around the hospitality industry. With the use of pipelines, the capacity and reliability of the gas supplied to customers have increased. PGN ensures that the added value of natural gas includes 24-hour guaranteed supply, efficiency, safety, and environmental friendliness.

One of the commercial customers now using PGN's pipeline gas is Hotel Gumaya. This five-star hotel uses PGN's natural gas at 500 MMBTU per month, equivalent to 14 kiloliters of fuel per month.

During a visit, the Hotel Gumaya management explained that they use natural gas for their kitchen and laundry operations. "Using PGN’s natural gas provides an energy cost efficiency of about 40%. Moreover, safety, which is a concern for PGN as part of the Pertamina Group, was one of the reasons we chose natural gas," said Rohayat, the Chief Engineering of Hotel Gumaya.

Using pipelines ensures a reliable supply and helps in calculating monthly energy usage. Additionally, there is a record of gas consumption, making it easier to manage and plan for operational expenses.

The gas pressure for the kitchen and laundry remains stable, and the reliability of the gas supply has been consistent so far.

The positive response from customers regarding the use of PGN’s natural gas encourages PGN to expand its reach to a wider commercial market in Central Java. With existing supply and infrastructure to support it, PGN hopes for smooth commercialization and service delivery for its customers. The environmentally friendly natural gas also plays a role in supporting green business initiatives.

Currently, PGN's Semarang area serves 31 industrial and commercial customers, 29 small customers, and 1 power plant. The volume of gas consumption by industrial and commercial customers has increased from 0.5 BBTUD to 3.5 BBTUD following the integration of Gresem, Cisem I pipeline, and PGN's distribution pipelines.
